Our Program
Details for students
01
Eligibility
You are an undergraduate student (18+), recent grad, or postbacc/non-traditional student planning on applying to medical school in the United States.
You have faced barriers to medical education, such as limited resources or connections in the field, financial challenges, and underrepresentation in mentorship, among others.
02
Application
Our applications open once a year in February.
The application is an online form and we ask about you, your interest in pursuing a medical career, and any barriers you’ve faced in accessing medical education.
We accept students based on their expressed interest, dedication to learning, and the availability of mentors in their area of interest. Since we receive more applications than we have physician mentors, we do our best to match students with mentors who share similar backgrounds, interests, and are located nearby.
03
If accepted, we will match you with a physician who shares a similar background, specialty interest, and location. While we strive to match students with physicians in the same geographical region, virtual matches may occur and will be specified before the pairing.
Once matched and introduced, you will reach out to your mentor and schedule your first meeting. You meet with your mentor at least three times virtually or in person.
04
Research Component
What makes PULSE unique is our emphasis on medical exploration and the chance to engage in a small literature research project with your mentor. This is designed to be relaxed opportunity to dive deeper into a medical topic by reading a few scientific articles and discussing them with your mentor. You will get the opportunity to practice literary research and discussing complex medical topics with your mentor.
